Help Wanted: Chapter Vice President—Development

That’s how this “job listing” for a key position in our Chapter’s leadership mignt be headlined. As most of you already know, our chapter – following a 24-year siesta! – is awake, full of energy and thriving.  In fact, we’ve become one of the country’s fastest growing SPJ chapters and to keep up that momentum, we’re actively looking for a Vice President—Development.

This is a board position although non-board members can apply and, if chosen, nominated to fill this key slot on the chapter’s board of directors.  The position requires strong communication skills and a willingness to solicit new members, address membership questions and issues, and be available via email and telephone to assist the chapter membership.

I formerly performed these functions as membership chairman on our 2009 interim board. The title change and upgrade to VP level reflects a wider focus on a range of activities. Besides recruiting new members,  it will be your responsibility as VP-Development to pursue and serve as initial contact for job postings, fellowship opportunities, and other “development” related activities to benefit the entire membership. You’ll interact fairly regularly with the national board and staff at SPJ headquarters in Indianapolis.

As a Chapter board member you’ll be required to attend at least a majority of monthly board meetings (either in-person or via conference call). As one of two Vice Presidents, you may also be called upon periodically to lead and/or facilitate a board meeting should the president or VP-Communications David L. Brown, be unavailable.

This is a terrific opportunity for someone who’s social, enthusiastic, and a natural leader.  Could that be you? To find out more, or to apply, please contact me at 505-466-2770 or bmodel@betsymodel.com ,or David at  505-867-4840 or david@dlbrown-inc.com.
