IPRA Wednesday in Santa Fe

In 2013, the Santa Fe Reporter filed a lawsuit alleging that Gov. Susana Martinez retaliated against the newspaper because the administration disliked the tone of its content. The governor refused to respond to press inquiries and violated the Inspection of Public Records Act, according to the lawsuit, which argues this is a kind of censorship.

The case is scheduled to go to court in the next couple of months. At this Santa Fe edition of SPJ-Rio Grande’s IPRA hangout we’ll talk about what the case will and won’t mean for other reporters in N.M. with SFR‘s editor and attorneys.

It’s informal and free, and you don’t have to be a member to attend. (But you should join our chapter anyway and help fight for press access around the state. )

While copies of records – whether paper or electronic – is the gold standard, it’s important to remember the “I” in IPRA.
