New Mexico is a pretty great place to be a journalist. There’s no shortage of stories. And the community of journalists here is an open one, full of helpful folks willing to share advice or a tip. Now, SPJ wants to help reporters connect in new ways, too. That’s why we’re excited to announce a new mentorship program.
Digital guru Henry M. Lopez put on an excellent workshop Saturday, sponsored by the SPJ-Rio Grande Chapter. He’s posted his material on his blog site and it’s all free, well worth taking time to explore whether you are a blogger, print journalist, radio or television reporter. Henry demonstrated the mixing of three programs to create interactive data maps for online use. (First of two parts.) The maps were just one the data visualization tools he covered. He walked us through new methods for using social media to report on issues.
He’s baaaaaack! Come join Guerilla Editor Henry Lopez for another stupendous digital workshop at the Santa Fe New Mexican. Learn to map Census data, use Storify to expand story telling and find out about new free online tools. Date: Saturday, Oct. 8, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
