Join the SPJ Rio Grande Chapter

Border training

Journalists from New Mexico and West Texas at a training SPJ-Rio Grande held in Las Cruces on border issues.

The Society of Professional Journalists Rio Grande Chapter exists to improve the state of journalism in New Mexico and West Texas.

We are rolling out new training and mentorship opportunities this year. We’re also stepping up our membership recruitment efforts so more journalists can benefit from coming together to share knowledge. We’d love for you to be part of that.

Nationally SPJ membership is $75 annually for those who spend more than half their time practicing or teaching journalism (the Rio Grande Chapter has no additional dues beyond the organization-wide membership) and comes with many benefits.

Along with the ability to tap into the resources and 100+ years of expertise of the nation’s oldest, largest and most broad-based journalism organization, there’s camaraderie, networking and, sometimes, commiserating with journalists right here in New Mexico.

There’s discounted admission to many of our chapter events, including awesome training opportunities – like this super-cool training we just held on tracking money in politics in NM.

We’re launching a brand-new mentorship program, pairing journalists from around the state to share their expertise.

Occasionally, we give money to journalists.

We hope you’ll consider joining us. If you have any questions, email us at
